Creating assets that contain atoms or molecules

If you want atoms or molecules to be on the canvas by default, create an XML file and add it to the item's assets. Before starting, make sure you have all the required files for the Lewis Structure Drawing Tool.

  1. Open the Lewis Structure Drawing Tool (lewisdraw_authoring_2013.html) in a browser that has the Flash plugin.
  2. Draw the molecule(s) you want to use.

Do not select any atoms unless you want them initially selected when students first view the question.

  1. Right-click on the canvas and choose get xml.
  2. Paste the information into Notepad and save the file as name.xml (where name is the molecule name).
  3. Create or open the item that will contain the drawing, and choose Manage Assets from the Manage this Itemmenu on the right.
  4. Click Browse and select the XML file from the location where you saved it.
  5. Click Update.
  6. In the editor, add another parameter to the Parameters field: &molecule=name.xml.
